The Leprecauns are said to be an elven race. Although their similarity, in many ways, to gnomes and dwarves cannot be denied. They share a love of the "brews" with those folks. And have a love of precious metals that they share with the dwarves specifically. Their exact origins are not known. But it is likely they were born of the 3rd race when incipient humanity was neither male nor female being in some cases both and in others capable, like certain plants, of changing sex according to need. In those times, there was nothing along the lines of property nor any prohibitions about sexual liaisons. Thus there was no need on the one hand to know exact parentage nor on the other, much chance of knowing anyway.

That the Leprecauns are great crafts people is well known and that they have a need for a financial nest egg to make them fell secure is also widely known. They can be quite reclusive and many of them tend toward the life of the hermit. They are often cautious and clever and inventive. And like Dwarves and Gnomes fit very easily into modern society.
