Hill Elves naturally live on hills, although if truth be told they
most often live within hills, much in the manner of Hobbits. The Hill
Elves however, seldom live in solitary familes but much like rabbits share
their warren in a tribal fashion. Similar to hobbits and dwarves they
often tend to be short of stature though seldom stocky as both of those
peoples usually are. And due to the amount of time spent underhill they
are often very pale of complexion.
The Hill Elven were noted in the past for painting their bodies blue,
sometimes silver, both as a protection of the sun for their fair skin
and also as a means of mystifying mankind and others. Note the similarity
between these folk and the blue skinned Krishna and other dieties of Hindu
and Tibetan Buddhist lore. And the idea that many writers and artists
have that we elfin have blue or silver skin most likely derives from this
practice of the Hill Elves.
Because of a reputation for being a bit wild, they are alternately called
Wild Elves and their magics are the "Wild Magics". The wild
magics have a great deal to do with getting in touch with and trusting
one's instincts and feelings. It is born of nature and the Earth which
is why in part the Hill Elves like to live within the Sacred Earth.
