Myths
about Elfin Magic:
Myth 1: Magic Requires Belief
Many people think that magic requires belief in order to work. This
is not accurate however; magic does not require belief, it only requires
action, which is not to underestimate the power of belief, for belief
can be quite powerful. However, magic does not depend upon it for
its success.
Belief is only important to magic in so far as it convinces the individual
that it will indeed work. If, for instance, we tell a primitive person
that if they flip the switch on the wall the light will come on, it
doesnt matter if they believe us or not. If they flip the switch,
it will come on. However, if they dont believe that it will
come on, they may not bother to flip the switch, thinking instead
that we are merely joking or tricking them. So, too, magic only requires
action. You need only do the magic and it will work. You do not need
to believe, you need only be scientifically minded enough to test
this theory and see if indeed, it is accurate in reality.
Myth 2: Technical Exactness is Necessary
Magic doesnt function exactly like switching on a light, as
some people think. While magic does require action and not belief,
magic is not, as some suppose, an exact science.
Some people think that in order to do magic you must follow a formula
exactly, just as you must be exact when creating a chemical composition.
But magic is not so exacting. While it has its scientific aspects,
it is also an art and the heart of magic requires intention, will,
motivation, and spirit. Magic, like a painting, like a musical composition,
depends more on individual style than technical perfection. It is
more important that you put your whole heart and soul into your magic,
than that you do everything exactly this or that way. Like making
love, there is no perfect formula or technique that can replace sensitive
and loving interaction. And believe us when we tell you, Elfin Magic
is making love.
In magic
spirit, emotional power, and sincerity out weigh technical
exactness every time/spell. Originality and creativity in magic, like
in movies or music, is more desirable than a slick but lifeless production.
On the other hand, if you can combine all these elements, enthusiasm
and spirit, originality and creativity, with technical proficiency
and smooth performance, you have the best of all possible combinations
and the most effective of magics.
Myth 3: Magic Drains Your Life Force?
This particular misconception is especially prevalent in fantasy stories.
The magician must always pay the price for having worked his magic
both in the short and long run by the sapping and draining of his
life energy. This is a wonderfully Christian (and weve heard
Moslem) conception but has no real validity in elfin magic.
Magic revitalizes. It renews and energizes. If your magic is draining
you, if you are sapped of your strength after your ceremonies, then
you are going about it incorrectly. It is true that magic is in some
ways like working out; one may feel exhausted at first, but soon their
energy is replenished and they have grown stronger. But most of all,
magic is like making love. One should feel exhilarated by ones
magic.
Magic is another aspect of sexual interaction. Doing your magic should
be like flirting with a person you are deeply attracted to; it should
turn you on, get you excited, filling you with creative juice and
potency.
If you are tired at all after your magic, it should be with the fulfilled
and relaxed feeling that comes after a tremendous orgasm: a healing,
cleansing feeling that renews you to your very soul.
