Unseelie

In all too many books, the Unseelie are the lower orders of Faerie... vicious, spiteful and ever at war with the Seelie for dominance of a region and a chance to bring dark dreams into people's minds and hearts. Tolkien wrote that the orcs and goblins and such had been created from elves that had been tortured and mutilated until there was nothing left but hate, malice and spite.
However, while there is some truth to those tales, here we speak of the Unseelie as those who have crossed over into Elfin yet are ever in danger of falling back into the world because of uncontrolled passions, jealousies, manipulativeness, argumentativeness, possessiveness and weakness for believing that the dark magics of aggression and dominance will make them powerful fae. They are ever angered at the world of men and continually playing "one-up-manship games" with each other. The dark spells have convinced them that they must fight fire with fire and they do not understand that fire is better quenched with water and controlled by denying it oxygen and fuel.

These struggling kindred of ours are not wholely lost however. There is always a chance that they will give up their dark ways and be thus welcomed deeper into Elfin. But they are as yet "unsealed" that is they have not thoroughly renounced in word and action the ways of the wicked magics.
